During a major incident our key priorities are, in this order:
- command and Control – establishing the right structure and resources for an effective response
- safety – of staff and patients as far as practicable
- communications – and co-ordination, both on and off site
- assessment - of healthcare needs and patient decontamination requirements
- triage – ensuring that the right patient is treated at the right time
- treatment – ensuring the most effective treatment is given according to condition and evacuation plan
- transport – removal of patients to appropriate facilities under the continuing care of staff with the right competencies.
