During 2009, the Scottish Ambulance Service carried out an extensive national consultation and strategy development process, resulting in a Strategic Framework, ‘Working Together for Better Patient Care 2010-2015’. This Strategic Framework sets out an ambitious programme of service development and improvement for the Scottish Ambulance Service for the next five years, identifying the following three goals:

to improve patient access and referral to the most appropriate care
to deliver the best service for patients
to engage with all our partners and communities to deliver improved healthcare

The Scheduled Care Programme is a key work stream of that Strategic Framework, and focuses on the scheduled or planned part of our service, better known to the public as the Patient Transport Service.
