Improving Patient Transport

A Patient Transport Service ambulance

During 2009, the Scottish Ambulance Service carried out an extensive national consultation and strategy development process, resulting in a Strategic Framework, ‘Working Together for Better Patient Care 2010-2015’.  This Strategic Framework sets out an ambitious programme of service development and improvement for the Scottish Ambulance Service for the next five years, identifying the following three goals:

  • to improve patient access and referral to the most appropriate care
  • to deliver the best service for patients
  • to engage with all our partners and communities to deliver improved healthcare

The Scheduled Care Programme is a key work stream of that Strategic Framework, and focuses on the scheduled or planned part of our service, better known to the public as the Patient Transport Service.
