Air Ambulance Re-procurement

A line of air ambulance helicopters and fixed wing aircraft

The Scottish Ambulance provides an Air Ambulance Service, which is funded by Scottish Government. It operates two helicopters: one based in Glasgow and one in Inverness. In addition, there are two fixed wing aircraft: one based at Aberdeen Airport and one at Glasgow Airport. These aircraft have been purpose built to a specification developed by the Scottish Ambulance Service. The current contract expires on 31 March 2013.

In October 2009, the Scottish Ambulance Service began a national consultation and engagement exercise with patients, carers, community groups, NHS Boards, emergency services and other key stakeholders to talk about the re-procurement of the next generation air ambulance. After two phases of consultation and engagement, two documents were produced: a Consultation Report and a Consultation Findings document. The third and final opportunity for sharing views on the Air Ambulance Service took place in November 2010, when these documents were made available for comment.
